Aging, as all of you reading this know, is filled with loss. We lose our strength, our health in many different ways, we lose some of our energy and we lose friends and family. We learn with the wild wisdom of women, how to deal with loss.
I had decided, along with a tear or two, to stop writing this blog.
My macular degeneration limits my sight.
The Girls haven’t been talking to me with creative ideas.
I lack motivation.
And worst of all – my cursor is beset by cursor demons and tries to hide every chance it gets, removes needed words and add things of which I I have no idea whatsoever.
BUT
Two beloved granddaughters, Paris and Tehra, have agreed to read and discuss a beloved classic together: Women Who Run With the Wolves by Clarissa Pinkola Estes, America’s greatest storyteller. We will read a story a month then zoom a discussion of the wild woman within us.
Just reading the introduction kicked me in the rear. I have a strong, instinctive Wild Woman within. In talking about woman’s creativity, intuitiveness and yes, her unstop-ableness, I got a breath or kick of new life and purpose.
I’ll write more blogs.
Don’t expect a blog every week. Do expect typos and lack of punctuation but expect the Girls to stick with us.
Now – the special request from the title of this piece.
This is a time of sad and worrisome division in our country.
Every one of you knows a woman, on either side of the political spectrum, who has experienced a loss –
A loss of relationships from loved ones who think differently.
A loss of hope and possibly a future from those whose candidate lost.
So the question is: What can we do? How can we help with the healing?
The Request: Think of a friend or family member who is sad or angry or worried because of politics.
Give her an inscribed and signed copy of The BOOB GIRLS; THE BURNED OUT OLD BROADS AT TABLE 12.
Wrap it up.
Add a funny Holiday card.
Deliver or send it with a hug.
It’s not much, but it means a lot. Just order the book and give us special instructions for the name of your fellow BOOB Girl and it will be on its way to you at once.
And watch for more blogs and more typos and more from all the friends at Meadow Lakes Retirement Community.
In the meantime – be thankful. Every night, before you go to sleep, list at least ten things for which you can be thankful for this day – don’t forget a warm shower, the smell of that first cup of coffee or tea, the sun coming through your window, a call from a friend, a good night’s sleep. Remember the things you take for granted for which thanks is most deserved.
Ted and I have a favorite breakfast spot: Jimmy’s Egg. One morning when we were there, Lisa, our server, said, “There are four ladies here who call themselves The BOOB Girls and I told them you come in here and they should invite you to lunch with them.” Lisa gave them my phone number and this month I met Julie, Sandy, Mary and Pam, absolutely delightful BOOB Girls. They gifted me with the most magnificent bouquet of autumn flowers I have ever seen and a fantastic t-shirt. Just take a look.

I can remember at least 9 I attended and I wrote a chapter that I sent you (for consideration) for one of your delightful Books and you used it! Joy, you are so thoughtful with everyone you …

I have so enjoyed reading your books!! And life does truly change along the way. We have such fond memories of when you visited our Library so many years ago!! And please know that the sets of your books that we have go out all over the state of Iowa!! So sorry to hear that you have macular degeneration. My husband was just diagnosed in the early stages of it. And, since I'm 73, I am trying to retire but having trouble finding someone who wants to take on a part-time job that requires so much work along with State reports, etc. I look forward to your blogs - - and if there's mistakes in spelling or punctuation, who cares???…
